How a pet swap works
The model reads the motion of the animal in your clip, frame by frame, and redraws it with the look of the pet in your reference photo: fur colour, markings, ear shape and size. Everything else follows the source footage, so the jump, the run or the head tilt happens at the same moment and from the same angle.
Results are best when the two animals are roughly similar in build. A small dog replacing a small dog is easier than a cat replacing a horse, because the model has to keep the original movement believable on the new body.
Ideas that work well
Pet swaps are mostly about fun and personal clips, but they also help small brands.
- Recreate a trending animal clip with your own dog or cat.
- Make a birthday or memorial video featuring a family pet.
- Show a pet product, such as a harness or a toy, on different breeds.
- Turn a pet into a fictional creature, a cartoon animal or a plush toy.
- Make a short story clip in which your pet is the hero.
How to do it
Genjutsu AI accepts one MP4 or MOV file up to 100 MB, 3–15 seconds long (4–15 seconds for Seedance 2.5 and the Higgsfield workflows), at least 720 pixels on the short side and recorded at 24–60 frames per second.
- Pick the source clip Choose a clip where the animal is clearly visible, not tiny in the frame and not hidden behind furniture for long.
- Add your pet Upload a sharp photo of your pet in good light, ideally from a similar angle to the clip. Add a side view if its markings matter.
- Use the preset The 'Recast a pet' preset reads: 'Replace the animal in @Video1 with the pet from @Image1. Keep the setting, motion, timing and camera. Do not change any person.' Edit it if you need to.
- Run and review Check the price, start the edit and watch the full result. If the coat pattern drifts, try a clearer reference photo.
Choosing an engine
Seedance 2.5 Video Edit Turbo is the default and handles pet swaps from a sentence and a photo at 720p or 1080p. Higgsfield Motion Transfer is another route on Genjutsu AI: it takes the motion of the source clip and rebuilds the scene around the pet or fictional character in your reference, which suits bigger changes. Kling O3 Video Edit is the lowest-cost option per second for quick tests.
Preparing a good pet photo
The reference photo decides how much your pet looks like itself in the result. Shoot in daylight or bright, even indoor light, with the whole animal in frame and the camera at its eye level. Avoid filters, heavy shadows, toys or other animals in the picture, and crop out anything that is not your pet. If your dog has a distinctive patch or a cat has odd-coloured eyes, a second close-up helps the model keep that detail across the clip.
Rules for pet swaps
Use clips and photos you are allowed to use; a viral video belongs to the person who filmed it. People in the clip stay as they are: Genjutsu AI does not replace a real person's face or identity. Label edited clips as edited when you share them, especially if they could be mistaken for real events.
